About Penetangore
The Penetangore Pipe Band is a competition band that provides advanced instruction in bag pipes and drums. Directed by Jake Watson, the Ontario organization includes Grade 2 and 4 groups and a schedule that involves regular rehearsals in Kincardine, Guelph and Oakville.
Formed in 2001, Penetangore is registered as a not-for-profit corporation. Its purpose is to enhance the art form of pipes and drums by sustaining an organization that can successfully compete at the North American Championship Highland Games and the World Championship Highland Games.
Named after a river that flows from Lake Huron, Penetangore is pronounced Pen-ne-tang-gore. It is believed to originate from an Ojibway word that Scottish settlers understood to mean "river with sand on one side."
